Pride and Prejudice: a quick review

I honestly thought there's something wrong with me not to be crazy over this piece of classic like everybody else.....

Yet, this is how I really think of it: it was good, 'agreeable' in Austenian word, but not enough so to make me totally engrossed. I picked it up last holiday and got into it soon after I watched the movie. I've heard about it so much, and the movie was okay, so I thought I would have better pleasure in reading the book. It was almost always that books were better than movie adaptation, no?

But here I am giving the book three stars, I also thought that it was only 'okay'. Forgive me, Austen fans. The first volume of the book bored me, the second one enchanted me enough to make me went through it in a night, the third one was not as great as the second. I confess I fancy Mr. Darcy just like any other woman reading Pride and Prejudice. Elizabeth herself was amiable, and the chemistry between Lizzy and Darcy was one of the most interesting thing in the book. Austen built it slowly and gradually, and as Darcy said, it was not known when it has started, when we're all aware, they're already in the middle of it. I am incapable of finding any romance book that build the chemistry between their couple like in Pride and Prejudice. Though, the slow paced plot and extensive, somewhat irrelevant narration at times bored me, and lured me to put down the book, again and again.

Perhaps I didn't like it as much because it reminded me that our modern life, was just as slow paced and irrelevant.....
